Understanding Water Categories and Health Risks

Not all floods are equal. The source of the water dictates the entire response protocol. Category 1 water (from a clean supply pipe) is initially safe but rapidly degrades into hazardous conditions if left untreated. Category 3 water, such as a sewage backup or stormwater flooding, contains pathogenic, toxigenic, or other harmful agents.

Exposure Dangers

Never attempt to extract Category 3 water with DIY equipment. It poses severe biological hazards. A professional team must establish containment zones and use specialized bio-washes.
